Getting Out of Bed is Hard.
Even on the best days, getting out of bed can be hard. With the cozy covers, the sense of wake-up dreariness, and the safeness/protection of the blankets, getting out of bed is not easy. Usually, the more you do things, the better at them you get, but getting out of bed in the morning is a different story. I have practiced getting out of bed literally every day for my entire existence, but every day is a new battle. I have picked up on a few ways to make it a little easier though. Dragging yourself out of bed is a different experience for everyone, but here are a few things that have helped me.
Have Something to Look Forward to.
Those first few steps are much easier when you have a plan for the day. It’s easy to get out of bed on the first day of a trip right? Make every day like the first day of a trip. When I have something fun I can wake up and do instantly, I fly out of bed. Whether it’s a new episode of your favorite TV show, a plan with a friend, or a tasty breakfast, having something planed makes a world of difference. Getting out of bed is not easy, reward yourself for making the effort.
Drink Lots of Water.
This may not be the most conventional strategy, but it works. Waking up in agony from a full bladder is not a lovely experience, but it can get you out of bed like nothing else. I know when I wake up and gotta go, that I really gotta go. Staying in bed is a death sentence for either you or the sheets, which makes getting up an easy choice. It might not feel comfortable, but that’s the point.
Keep Your Phone Out of Bed.
Opening your eyes and checking your socials is a really easy habit to fall into. Getting the serotonin from likes and swipes is a common way to start the day, but it keeps you anchored to your bed frame. Not sure about you guys, but I can spend hours in bed on my phone, hours much better spent physically living life. If you want to check your texts or make plans for the day, make sure you are out from under the covers. It may be hard at first (and later), but it helps. If your phone is too dangerous next to your bed, maybe you have to move it across the room. Anything you can do to keep your phone out of your bed is going to help you at night and in the morning, so you might as well give it a shot.
Open the Shade.
Waking up to blinding light does wonders towards waking you up in the morning. Your eyes may need a minute to adjust, but just seeing the great outdoors will motivate you. Whether it’s nice and sunny or the clouds are putting a damper on your cozy cave, seeing the light will revivify you either way.
Sleep the Right Amount.
There’s a window of sleep that will keep you feeling fresh for the entire day ahead. Getting 8-10 hours of sleep every night is a good start. If you wake up energized and rested, getting out of bed will be much easier, and your day will be better for it. You will wake up less groggy and feel ready for a new day.
Make a Sleep Schedule.
Your body adapts well to your sleep habits. If you can make a habit of when you go to sleep and wake up, it will pay dividends. Your body will know when you want to wake up and be prepared. It will be more efficient, and you will wake up and feel it. If you and your body can work together, everyone will be happier.
Final Words.
Those are just a few of the things you can do. They may seem small in isolation, but with some consistency, they add up. If they don’t look like easy things to do, that’s because they aren’t. Self-improvement is never easy, and it takes time and dedication to get results. Even if you can only try one new thing, your body will thank you. Try what you can. Getting out of bed feeling great will never be easy, but we can get better at it, one day at a time.
